  • Tarrant County is a big step closer to getting direct train service to DFW International Airport.

Officials gathered for a groundbreaking at T&P Station just south of downtown Fort Worth.  Mayor Betsy Price, Congressman Marc Veasey and transportation officials picked up shiny new shovels and turned them over for the cameras.

TEX Rail is slated to open by the end of 2018. The 27-mile route has a $1 billion price tag, and will have stops in North Richland Hills and Grapevine. Price says this is the first step toward a more transit-focused future in Fort Worth.

“TEX Rail will change the shape of how we do things,” she said. “You’ve all heard me say we’ll never pour enough concrete for the growth that we’re seeing for this region.”

Price says North Texas must embrace a comprehensive master plan drawn up by the Fort Worth Transit Authority – that plan includes express buses to Alliance Airport and Denton, and a train station in Arlington on the Trinity Railway Express line.
