Top Stories: Federal Ed Officials Wrap Up Texas Visit; This Weekend’s Deep Chill

The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Officials from the U.S. Department of Education officials are wrapping up a week in Texas. They’ve been talking to parents and educators after an investigation by The Houston Chronicle found the state capped special education enrollment at 8.5 percent. The national average is 13 percent.

Dallas ISD expects to complete an independent review of its special education program in February.

  • President-elect Donald Trump easily won the popular vote in Texas, but at least two of this state’s electors have said they won’t cast votes for Donald Trump. Christopher Suprun, a firefighter and paramedic for Dallas, talked about his decision in our Friday Conversation.
  • An arctic cold front will move through North Texas this weekend. Temperatures will feel nice today and tomorrow, but temperatures will begin to plunge Saturday evening.
