Top Stories: Dallas Protest Against Police Brutality Ends Peacefully

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: There were no arrests last night during a peaceful march against police brutality in downtown Dallas. The march was organized by the Next Generation Action Network, the same group that organized what started as a peaceful march in July.

That march ended when five Dallas police officers were killed by a gunman.

“When they told us it was too soon, we went down there to stand in solidarity and prayed for the officers that were slain because they sacrificed their lives,” NGAN founder Dominique Alexander said. “We’re not inhumane. We’re just telling this inhumane world that we’re tired of people being gunned down and not brought justice for their killing.”

Leaders of the group spoke at the march last night along with other organizers to protest the fatal police shooting of black men in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Police in riot gear showed up later in the march, but there were no arrests or reports of violence.
