Update, 8:30 p.m. Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez says that she's still considering a run for governor, but reports that she has resigned from her current post are false, according to The Texas Tribune.

If she does run, Valdez would be the first high-profile Democrat to challenge Republican incumbent Greg Abbott.

  • Several Texans in Congress are calling it quits. So far, six of the 36 members of the state's Congressional delegation say they are not running for re-election. Joshua Blank is the manager of polling and research at the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas and he talked with David Brown, host of the Texas Standard.

  • Author Tom Clancy died in 2013, yet thrillers keep coming under his name.  The latest is called "Power and Empire" and it's written by Fort Worth native Marc Cameron. He sits down with KERA's Anne Bothwell to talk about his new book.
