Top Stories: Dallas City Council Will Hear Recommendations On Stray Dog Issue

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Dallas City Council members this morning will get an update on the city’s stray dog problem.

The report from Boston Consulting Group was commissioned after a homeless Army veteran died from a dog attack in South Dallas in May.

Some of the key findings include disparities between North and South Dallas in terms of spay and neuter rates, as well as the number of stray dogs.

  • Dallas Police Chief David Brown is reconsidering his request to hire 549 new officers next fiscal year. A memo from Mayor Mike Rawlings to council members stated Brown and city manager A.C. Gonzalez are looking at phasing in the hiring over three years. Gonzalez will update council members next week on the proposal.
  • After four years of contract negotiations, Southwest Airlines' pilots union yesterday said it’s reached a tentative agreement with the company for pay increases.
