The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

Seven candidates — three internal and four from outside Texas — interview this week with the hopes of becoming the next chief of the Dallas Police Department.

Candidates begin a three-day interview process today with a tour of police facilities and parts of Dallas as well as a reception with community stakeholders.

Other stories this evening:

  • A new study takes a closer look at use-of-force incidents within the Police Department. Researchers found that white police officers in Dallas do not use force disproportionately against minorities.
  • Governor Greg Abbott today formally called a special legislative session, which begins next week. But how much is the special session going to cost?
  • Lizzie Velasquez was born with a rare genetic condition that affects her heart, eyes and bones -- and it prevents her from gaining weight. At 17, she found herself the subject of a YouTube video called "World's Ugliest Woman." Now 28, Velasquez uses that experience to fuel her work as an anti-bullying activist and motivational speaker. Today on Think, she told Krys Boyd why she has compassion for the people who made that video.
