Top Stories: Arlington Teacher Honored With Top Prize; Taking Flight In An Old Bomber

Arlington Collegiate High School teacher Jenn Fuller accepts the Milken Educator Award.

The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

An Arlington high school English teacher won a national education honor Wednesday afternoon. The Milken Educator Award comes with a $25,000 prize. KERA’s Bill Zeeble reports the honor brought cheers from students and tears to the teacher.

  • There is perhaps no painting more recognizable than the Mona Lisa, and what has captivated viewers for centuries is her smile. Today on Think, Krys Boyd talked with biographer Walter Isaacson about how Leonardo da Vinci used science to craft the world's most famous smile. 

 

  • There are only a handful of working B-17 bombers today, and one is in Fort Worth this week. These so-called “flying fortresses” were hulking, four-engine bombers, and during World War II they carried a 10-man crew and tons of bombs into battle. KERA’s Christopher Connelly took a ride in the Madras Maiden, and he reports it was a reunion of sorts, for the plane and a woman who hasn’t seen it in years.
