The top local stories this evening from KERA News: The Dallas County community of Sandbranch has no running water, sewer service or trash pickup.

Residents there are taking small steps toward changing that with the formation of a development and water supply corporation. A Dallas attorney has also offered to help residents navigate legal challenges pro bono.

Also, Colombian artist Doris Salcedo received the new Nasher Sculpture Prize over the weekend. It’s an international award that comes with 100 thousand dollars.

Making monuments for the dead is one of the oldest functions of sculpture. And her memorials are different.

You can listen to North Texas stories weekdays at 6:20 p.m. and 8:22 a.m. on KERA 90.1 FM.
