Top Stories: 10 Pregnant Women Show Signs Of Zika Virus; Tackling Illiteracy For Low Income Students

The top local stories this afternoon from KERA News: Ten pregnant women in Dallas County may have contracted the virus while traveling outside the country. Dallas County already has already had nine confirmed Zika cases. Tarrant County just announced its sixth case today; Denton and Collin Counties have reported two each. 

A program for low income children is trying to improve literacy. Dallas’ Jubilee Park Community Center, which was featured in last year’s KERA series ‘Inside A Neighborhood,’ runs an after school and summer program for local kids.

KERA's Courtney Collins reports that the students who attend have made major strides in reading over the past year.
