Street Closures To Keep In Mind For The Dallas Marathon This Weekend

Dallas drivers may contend with extra traffic this weekend for the BMW Dallas Marathon. 

The annual marathon will take place Sunday, Dec. 9, but there are several running events happening Saturday too. 

Jerry Jones, an event coordinator with the BMW Dallas Marathon, says roads coinciding with the running routes will be closed off through the duration of the runs:

» Saturday, December 8

  • 10K – 8:30 a.m.
  • 5K – 8:45 a.m.
  • 2-Mile Walk – 9 a.m.
  • Kids Races – 10:00 a.m.

» Sunday, December 9

  • Corrals Open – 7 a.m. 
  • Start Ceremonies Begin – 8:15 a.m. 
  • Marathon Races Begin – 8:30 a.m.
  • Finish Line Closes – 3:30 p.m.  
  • Bag Check Closes – 4 p.m. 

People using DART light-rail should also note that both Mockingbird and White Rock stations will be closed for the duration of the races marathon.

And here's a more detailed list of expected weekend closures in downtown Dallas from the city's Office of Special Events: 

Friday, December 7 - Sunday, December 9 

  • Marilla Street – All lanes closed from Young Street to Akard Street and from Ervay Street to the west side of the Parking Company of America Parking Lot, at 702 South Ervay Street, from 7 a.m. on December 5 through 10 p.m. on December 9
  • Browder Street – All lanes closed from Young Street to the north side of City Hall horseshoe from 9 a.m. on December 5 through 10 p.m. on December 9
  • Ervay Street from Canton Street to Young Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Akard Street – Partial closure of the interior median lanes north of Marilla Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • City Hall Garage – The entrance/exit on Young Street will be closed from 9 a.m. on December 6 through 10 p.m. on December 9 (access will be from Akard Street/Canton Street with City of Dallas credentials)
  • Young Street – All lanes closed from Field Street to St. Paul Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on December 9
  • Ervay Street – All lanes closed from Canton Street to Young Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on December 9
  • Akard Street – All Southbound lanes closed from Young Street to Canton Street and northbound lanes from Wood Street to Canton Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on December 9
  • Field Street All lanes closed from the south side of the Dallas Federal Credit Union dock entrance to Young Street from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m. on December 9
  • Griffin Street – All lanes closed from Ceremonial Drive to Young Street from 3 p.m. on December 8 through 10 p.m. on December 9
  • Ceremonial Drive – Closed on the east side of Griffin Street at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Shuttle Drop-off from 7 p.m. on December 8 through 10 p.m. on December 9. Ceremonial Drive, west of Griffin Street will remain open. (Pedestrian access will not be affected)
  • City Hall Horseshoe - Closed from 7 p.m. on December 7 through 6 a.m. on December 10
  • Young Street – All lanes closed from S. Pearl Expressway to S. Market Street
  • Market Street – All lanes closed from Young Street to Main Street
  • Main Street – All lanes closed from Commerce Street to S. Walton Street
  • Walton Street – All lanes closed from Main Street to Commerce Street
  • Commerce Street – All lanes closed from Houston Street to North Riverfront Boulevard
  • North Riverfront Boulevard – All lanes closed from Commerce Street to Continental Avenue
  • Continental Avenue – All lanes closed from N. Riverfront Boulevard to the Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge
  • South Lamar Street – All lanes closed from Main Street to Young Street
  • South Walton Street – All lanes closed from Main Street to Commerce Street
  • South Cesar Chavez Boulevard – All lanes closed from Main Street to Canton Street
  • Elm Street – All lanes closed from Houston Street to Commerce Street
  • South Good Latimer Expressway – All lanes closed from Main Street to Canton Street
  • Canton Street – All lanes closed from South Good Latimer Expressway onto Young Street
