North Texas remains under a heat advisory until 8 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service says.
The region has been under a heat advisory since Wednesday with temperatures in the mid-to-upper nineties and sweltering heat indexes of 100-plus degrees this week.
Today will be the hottest of the weekend with a high of 97 degrees in Dallas and 99 in Fort Worth, and heat indexes could fall between 103 and 108 degrees for areas not expecting rainfall, the weather service says. On average D-FW's first 100-degree day hits around July 1.

Beat The Heat
Dallas County health officials confirmed its first heat-related death of the year on Wednesday, but few details were released on the person, The Dallas Morning News reported. Well before this week's fatality, the city of Dallas announced the opening of two "Beat the Heat" centers, funded by Reliant Energy, according to KXAS.

The centers are located at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in South Dallas and the West Dallas Multipurpose Center. They will be open until Sept. 30, according to KXAS.
