Dallas, TX – The state just launched a program with the federal Housing and Urban Development office to help troubled homeowners avoid foreclosures.

HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson was in Dallas Monday urging those facing foreclosure to call a new state hotline at the new Texas Foreclosure Prevention Task Force.

HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson: The first step is to face the problem. It's human nature to deny it. But if you pick up phone, the odds of keeping your home goes up dramatically. Just call. It's that simple.

Jackson said nearly every Texan who sought counseling help last year managed to avoid foreclosure, and keep the house they're living in. Bill Zeeble, KERA News.

Homeowners facing foreclosure trouble can call this toll-free hotline, 1-888-995-HOPE.
