Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected to turn himself in on felony securities fraud charges and so far, state Republican leaders are not rushing to his defense.
A grand jury indictment is expected to be unsealed Monday in Collin County. Special prosecutors and the Texas Rangers have been investigating Paxton for months over allegations that he misled investors before become the state's top law enforcement officer.
Paxton attorney Joe Kendall said in a brief statement late Saturday that they would honor a judge's instructions to not publicly comment.
Also staying quiet are Gov. Greg Abbott and other top GOP leaders. None have weighed in since a special prosecutor told The New York Times this weekend that Paxton has been indicted on three felony charges.
