A second Dallas resident has been diagnosed with West Nile virus.
The resident lives in the 75224 zip code, which is in the Oak Cliff area, Dallas County’s health and human services department announced today. It's the same zip code where this year's only West Nile death was reported last week. The latest case is the sixth reported in the county so far this year.
This West Nile season has been tame compared to last year's record-breaking season.
But mosquitoes that carry the West Nile virus are active in Dallas, the health department warns.
When mosquito season started in May, the city of Dallas tripled the number of traps from last year and placed them in places where pervious West Nile virus activity had been recorded.
The health department reminds residents to take precautions against mosquito bites by reducing outdoor activity during early morning and nighttime hours. Residents who are outside during these times should cover their arms and legs and use a mosquito repellant.
