An ice storm warning is in effect for several counties west of the Metroplex until midnight Wednesday.

Up to half an inch of ice can be expected in Montague, Young, Jack, Wise, Stephens, Palo Pinto, Parker and Eastland counties noted in dark purple, according to the National Weather Service’s latest forecast.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for those counties as well as Cooke, Grayson, Fannin and Denton counties, plus Comanche, Erath, Hood and Somervell counties southwest of the Metroplex. The advisory also lasts until noon Thursday.

Ice accumulations between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch are expected in these areas.

The weather service warns that ice accumulations will lead to dangerous travel conditions, as well as falling tree branches and isolated power outages.

Freezing rain and light ice accumulations are possible Thursday morning.
