No License or Insurance? In Highland Park, You'll Get Towed

May 24, 2012

Starting Friday, Highland Park will join the ranks of other law enforcement agencies who tow the cars of drivers without a license or insurance.

But if you simply forget to put your new insurance card in your wallet, Highland Park will check its database for proof of insurance before impounding your car.

Sergeant Lance said several law enforcement agencies including the Dallas and Arlington Police Departments and Tarrant County already employ this practice.

“It’s just removing the opportunity for other people, innocent motorists to become victims of those situations where they’re struck by a driver who shouldn’t be driving a car or they just don’t have insurance and they can’t provide the coverage once they do hit a vehicle,” he said.

If your car is impounded, Koppa says an officer will transport you and others in your car to a safe location.
