From The Newsroom: North Texan Joins Texas Railroad Commission Race

The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom: Several lawmakers have thrown their hat into the Texas Railroad Commissioner race. 

The latest is former state House member Lon Burnam. He joins three Republicans and another Democrat in a race to replace current commissioner David Porter, who announced he wasn’t seeking re-election.

Other stories this morning:

  • A campus police officer’s on administrative duty today after shooting and killing a student at the University of North Texas yesterday. A university spokesperson said the officer was responding to reports of a person breaking car windows, when a man allegedly approached him with an ax in his hand. The officer shot him.
