Joe May is the sole finalist for chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, school officials announced today.
If the district's Board of Trustees approves the nomination, May would take over for Wright Lassiter Jr., who retires on Dec. 31 after 27 years with DCCCD.
May is currently president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. He’s also served as system president for the Colorado Community College System and president of Pueblo Community College.
Texas law requires a 21-day waiting period before a vote can be made to approve May’s nomination. Board members will vote on May’s appointment on Nov. 5.
May started his higher education career in 1978 as an adjunct faculty member with DCCCD when Cedar Valley College opened.
May, a native of East Texas, was the first member of his family to attend college.
