Irving ISD students got a surprise in their lunches on Friday – mango.
The Irving ISD Food and Nutritional Services department launched a new campaign that encourages students to try a new fruit or vegetable for free.
The program, called “Sample Something New,” launched on Friday.
The mango, which is native to South Asia, kicked off the program. One food will be served each month. Next up: Blackberries, which will be served Oct. 25. Brussels sprouts will be prepared on Nov. 15. Other foods will include jicama, beets, red grapes, sugar snap peas, watermelon, and squash.
Irving ISD sent us some pictures of students enjoying the mango.
