The finishing touches are made on the sign for Interabang Books, located at the corner of Preston Road and Royal Lane.

Five stories that have North Texas talking: Dallas’ bookstore opens soon; Cornyn and Cruz don’t agree on health care; new stats support an old adage: DART needs work; and more.

Anticipation for Dallas’ new independent bookstore has been building for nearly six months, but there’s finally a hard date set for soft opening on July 1.

Interabang Books will reside at 10720 Preston Road at Royal Lane, a location that general manager Jeremy Ellis said “is kind of a literary sweet spot in Dallas,” when the news was first announced.

Interabang hopes to provide relevant selections and a community that’s “fundamental to every great independent bookstore's experience," Ellis told the Dallas Morning News.

Interabang could round out the city’s current literary landscape. Dallas has several chains like Half Price Books and a couple of hybrid or niche bookstores like The Wild Detectives in Oak Cliff and Deep Vellum Books.

Interabang already has a few events lined up and thousands of books ready for the shelves. A grand opening is slated for Sept. 11. [The Dallas Morning News, KERA News]
