'This Is Hunger' Exhibit Stops In Dallas, Spotlights Millions Who Go Without

Jan 13, 2017

A interactive exhibit housed in a 53 foot-long trailer is traveling the country, to educate communities about hunger—and the 42 million Americans who experience it.

It’s called “This is Hunger,” and once inside visitors sit at a long dining table and watch a presentation of photos and audio elements with quotes projected on the table itself.

Tour facilitator Maya Joshua says she hopes folks will visit the exhibit with family, friends or coworkers—exploring a topic that might feel foreign, surrounded by familiar people.

“Hunger is more prominent in our country than people think. It isn’t painfully obvious when we look around, but people are hungry in our communities. It may be your neighbor who had a health crisis and now is struggling to pay those bills out of what used to pay for food," she says. "It could be a student in your child’s class who can’t concentrate because she didn’t have dinner last night.”

The exhibit is at the Jewish Community Center of Dallas Friday, Jan. 13 and Sunday, Jan. 15. You can make a free reservation here.
