Financial Advisors Shot In Dallas Office

Dallas, TX – Dallas Police believe a former client - angry over some business dealings -- shot and wounded two financial advisers in a north Dallas office building Monday morning. KERA's BJ Austin reports.

Police say the two men wounded at Smith Financial on Merit Drive are father and son. 39 year old Chris Smith, shot in the face and neck, managed to escape to the stairwell. 63 year old Richard Smith was shot in the legs. He was lying on the floor of his office with the gunman still inside when police approached in the third floor hallway. At the doorway, officers heard a shot. Thinking they were being shot at, they returned fire toward the suspect, but missed. Lt. Andy Harvey says the gunman, believed to be in his 60's, shot himself.

Harvey: One of the victims told one of the officers before he was transported that if the officers hadn't responded so quickly, he believed he would have been dead.

Lt. Harvey says others in the building were not in immediate danger.

Harvey: We believe he went straight to the third floor and confronted both victims, whom he knew.

Police say Richard Smith is in stable condition, his son Chris in serious condition. The gunman is reported to be in "very critical" condition.
