Starting Monday, June 3, North Texas commuters can make a deal for a free week on buses and trains: swap a gasoline receipt for a regional transit pass.

It’s part of ‘Dump the Pump’, a national campaign by the American Public Transportation Association. Dee Leggett is with the Denton County Transportation Authority.

"It’s initiatives like Dump the Pump that help promote transit to current users of the system, and also introduce transit to non-users to encourage them to give us a try,” Leggett said.

Researchers for the American Public Transportation Association determined North Texas commuters who switch to transit could save as much as $9,000 a year.

For the next two weeks, the DCTA, DART and the T will be at special events swapping weekly, regional passes for a gas receipt.  The passes are for the week of June 16-22 on Denton transit, including the A-Train, DART, the Trinity Railway Express and the T.  June 20th is national Dump The Pump Day.
