DART Increases Rail Security
By Bill Zeeble
Dallas Area Rapid Transit says a uniformed officer is now on board every light rail route every day, and it will stay that way for the time being.
Morgan Lyons, with DART, says blanket security began Monday, and follows a series of shootings and assaults at DART stations and buses. Lyons says even more security will be added within weeks.
Lyons: By the end of March, we’ll have cameras at all 55 light rail stations. Our new buses will have cameras on board as they start coming in later this year. We’ll be adding a text capability where customers who might be concerned or afraid about calling 911 or DART police directly can send a text message.
Lyons says the agency will spend $41,000 a month to pay for the 20 new security positions.
