Dallas Opera Announces World Premiere In Upcoming Season

Dallas, TX – The Dallas Opera today announced its inaugural season in the new Winspear Opera House, set for October, 2009.

The company's five operas, from October to May, will include a world premiere of Moby Dick by award-winning composer Jake Heggie. It'll be featured here in March 2010, before moving on to San Francisco and Calgary.

Heggie's best-known opera is Dead Man Walking, among the world's most performed contemporary operas, first produced 8 years ago.

When the new Dallas opera house opens, it will be part of the city's Center for the Performing Arts, which will make up the largest contiguous arts district in the world.
Dallas arts critic and writer Olin Chism is blogging about the new lineup on the KERA Arts+Culture blog at kera.org.
