Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings presents his Southern Dallas Economic Growth Plan this afternoon. KERA’s BJ Austin reports the Mayor has made economic development south of I-30 his top priority for 2012.
Mayor Rawlings wants to jumpstart an economic boom in Southern Dallas. He’s expected to propose several things no mayor has done before to bring more and better retail, residential, commercial and industrial development south of I-30.
South Dallas City Councilman Tennell Atkins expects the Mayor will focus on a few things that will have immediate impact.
Atkins: To lay out a road map, uhm certain projects; education, Bishop Arts, the Cedars, what are some of the low hanging fruit we can get.
Atkins suspects Mayor Rawlings will use his expertise in private equity funding, corporate turnarounds, and marketing to come up with a few exciting ideas for Southern Dallas. They Mayor is inviting interested citizens, community leaders, developers and financial investors to the public announcement at 4 this afternoon at the South Side Studios on Lamar.
