Dallas Democrats Challenge Sheriff Valdez

Dallas, TX – Bill Zeeble, KERA reporter: Three of the four Democratic Sheriff's candidates addressed a recent Democratic forum, where all touched on the jail system. For 5 years now, it's failed federal inspection. Incumbent Lupe Valdez says it's still much better than it used to be.

Sheriff Valdez:

Zeeble: Incumbent Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, seeking re-election. One of her primary opponents is former Prosecutor Peter Schulte.

Schulte:

Zeeble: That's Dallas County Sheriff's candidate Peter Schulte. Also challenging Lupe Valdez is the Lancaster Schools Police chief Sam Allen, who's run for this office before.

Sam Allen:

That's the chief of Lancaster Schools Police, Sam Allen, one among 3 Democrats challenging Dallas County Sheriff Valdez. The last is Roy Williams Jr., an investigator with the Sheriff's Department.

Roy Willams:

Roy Williams, a Sheriff's Department investigator, who's challenging incumbent Lupe Valdez. We also heard from other Democrats Peter Schulte and Sam Allen. Early voting ends today. Primary election day is March 4th. Bill Zeeble KERA news.
