Dallas City Council A Step Closer to Adding New Love Field Vendors

Dallas City Council members are a week and a half away from approving additional vendors at Dallas Love Field.

Two years ago, some city leaders worried that just two politically-connected concession owners ran roughly half the airport’s retail operations.

A restaurant called Sky Ranch is planned as one of new operations. City council woman Carolyn Davis has some concerns.

Davis:  They were not a brand name. So what’s going to drive somebody to go down there if they’re not a brand name? Sky Ranch is a new concept. I could have come up with Sky Ranch. And I could have put my name in a hat. Put my hand down in a bucket, pull up my name, and I’m Sky Ranch.

City staff says there will be a mix of new and older, established businesses at the modernized and larger Love Field. The city estimates it could earn more than $57 million a year when the upgraded airport opens next year. The council votes on the concession plan in March.
