Dallas, TX – Starting Friday, Arlington police will begin enforcing a ban on texting and driving. KERA's BJ Austin reports.
The Arlington City Council passed the ban on texting while driving in September. It prohibits the use of cell phones by a driver except for making a phone call. No texting, no Facebook posting, no Googling.
Officers will be watching for drivers who appear to be engaged for a period of time with activities on their phone. If stopped, officers will ask more questions to determine if a ticket is warranted. The fine is 200 dollars. Arlington police say they hope people will realize that distracted driving, including texting while driving, is extremely dangerous and will change their behavior rather than risk a ticket.
