American Airlines Leads in Late Arrivals

Dallas, TX – The DOT shows American Airlines arrived on schedule at the gate 62 percent of the time, the worst among 19 large carriers studied by the department, 2nd worst was Comair, and 3rd was American's small plane subsidiary, American Eagle.

American's Tim Smith says the carrier was behind in March, almost from the start.

Smith: "Remember early in March we had 4,5 even 6 days of severe storms that canceled flights at our main Dallas/Fort Worth hub and up into Oklahoma."

Also that month Smith says American canceled flights for FAA inspections. But that was only the first round. Thousands more were canceled in April, so Smith expects American's on-time ranking will suffer again.
