In Dallas, global flavors seem to be playing a pretty big part in one area's transformation.

For decades, West Dallas was a ramshackle place: a Superfund site with a cement plant, some crime-ridden warehouses and a modest Latino neighborhood known as La Bajada across a potholed two-lane bridge from glittery downtown.

Now there's a soaring new bridge, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, that some called the "Bridge to Nowhere." They’re part of an environmental installation designed as rest stops for birds. It sounds peaceful enough, but artists, lake activists and neighborhood groups are sharply at odds over the bird roosts.

What triggered the dispute? The city’s lack of maintenance of the artwork.

Wed, 26 Mar 2014 15:43:17 +0000 Jerome Weeks 47050 at http://keranews.org Should These Poles In White Rock Lake Be Torn Down?
