The bridge linking Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico

Laredo, TX – Suzanne Sprague, KERA 90.1 Reporter: Straddling the Rio Grande in southern Texas, Laredo is the largest inland port in the western hemisphere. But it is also a city divided. Laredo, Texas, sits on the American side. Nuevo Laredo is just across the river in Mexico. But most people here think of "Los Dos Laredos" as one city. Betty Flores is mayor of the Texas side.

Analysts not-so-optimistically-cautious about economy

Dallas, TX – Suzanne Sprague, Reporter: There was a lot of shoulder-shrugging and head-scratching at yesterday's economic forum sponsored by the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce. He had two children at West Point - one a senior who has since graduated, and one who is a junior this fall. Our neighbors know something about sacrifice and service.

Fleming Companies on the hot seat

Dallas, TX – It's not easy when accusations are given and denials are made. The current corporate climate calls for truths to be revealed either by an outside source or more ethically from within. But when a company flatly rebuffs what has been exposed, who do you believe? I'm Maxine Shapiro with KERA Marketplace Middays.

Viva Los Estados Unidos

Dallas, TX – I could tell the joke hit a nerve with my fellow Latinos because the laughter was spontaneous - and uneasy. We were crammed into a tiny auditorium to see a comic from L.A., and the Chicano comedian had just acted out a scene about authorities who mistake a Latino for Osama Bin Laden.

Developing video and computer games in higher education

Dallas, TX – No doubt about it, video and computer games are a growing business. It's an industry that generates over $6 billion in sales. No wonder higher education is considering it as a degree. But can it do so while the moral controversy looms overhead? I'm Maxine Shapiro with KERA Marketplace Middays.
